A  major manufacturer of windshield wiper components in the United States recently took the system approach in installing Surge Suppression equipment. They were having power problems related to a drought the region was suffering and installed surge suppression equipment in an effort to eliminate problems they were having with equipment after power was restored.

          Additionally, they were looking for a system that could isolate production welders from sensitive electronic equipment that located on the same distribution lines.

          An example of some of the comments from the Plant Engineer:

"................We had thought that payback would occur sometime around 14 months. It is my belief that the installation has already paid for itself now—less t han eight months after all equipment was placed on-line......".

"................we’ve noticed that the downtime associated with failures immediately after these outages has been greatly reduced."

"............... We actually believe the return on investment from these savings alone (Maintenance and Repair Costs) account for the greatest savings in the long run."

"................To summarize..................Electrical Repairs: Down 35%.........Electronic Repairs: Down 54%.........Lighting Replacement Costs: Down 65%
