The simplest most effective (and usually the least expensive) way to deal with voltage transients--regardless of their point of origin--is with a transient voltage suppressor.

   Serving dirty electric power to sensitive electronic equipment such as data processing and process control computers can make your equipment both mentally and physically ill. Mental problems can range from disorientation and hallucinations, through amnesia, to total insanity. Physical effects can range from general sluggish performance and collapse from undernourish ment, through irreversible damage to vital organs, to sudden death.

    As electronic equipment is getting smaller, faster acting, less expensive, and more commonplace, electric power is getting dirtier. The problems caused by dirty power spreads and becomes even more delicate. The electronics industry is standing on the threshold of another quantum leap forward in microelectronics technology.

    Dedicated lines can alleviate the problem of transients originating in the plant, but they do nothing about transients originating upstream of the dedicated line's point of connection.
